Our Mission
Since MEDICO's founding in 1990, our mission has been to improve the quality of life of Central Americans by providing a sustainable healthcare response to underserved communities. We exist to serve in 3 main ways:
Medical
We partner with community leaders, local healthcare members, and US healthcare members to mobilize short-term medical teams that provide primary and acute care to the remote community members to which we serve.
Education
We implement educational programs throughout our stay in each location to promote sustainable health changes because we believe knowledge is power.
Construction
We connect with local construction teams to fund both materials and labor to reconstruct and build structures that fit the needs of the community whether that be a clinic, water well, or school.

Meet MEDICO's Operating Board
Mike Moxness
- Actively involved with MEDICO as a nurse and educator since 2011.
- Works with other international humanitarian aid organizations in Central America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
- A registered nurse in emergency medicine
- Previously an attorney and chief counsel for a NYSE-listed corporation in the wholesale/retail food industry.
- Decades of experience working and teaching in the field of search and rescue and wilderness medicine
- Lives in Alaska with his wife, Diane.

- Is a retired international telecom executive.
- Had great experience in team leadership and team organization.
- Resides in Virginia with his wife, Margaret Ann.

- Has been serving with MEDICO since 1990.
- Has worked with numerous other charitable groups that provide dental services and establish clinics for people in remote parts of the world.
- Serves as a mentor for at-risk teenage boys.
- Owns DDS business in New York since 1974.
- Lives in NYC with his wife, Roberta.
Sheldon Kupper
- Has been serving with MEDICO since 1990.
- Has worked with numerous other charitable groups that provide dental services and establish clinics for people in remote parts of the world.
- Serves as a mentor for at-risk teenage boys.
- Owns DDS business in New York since 1974.
- Lives in NYC with his wife, Roberta.
Sheldon Kupper
Lynda Peters
- A co-founder of MEDICO (along with husband, Norm), served as Executive Director for over two decades.
- Has a deep passion for humanitarian service and is a strong advocate for the most vulnerable, sharing her heart and soul for the mission of MEDICO.
- Garnered special recognition from First Lady Mary Flake de Flores of Honduras for her work with the underserved of her country and was recognized for her efforts in getting a pregnant women’s center built which was aptly named after her.
- Has led numerous teams to Central America since its inception in 1990.
- Resides in Texas and loves sharing volunteer time in her home community.

- Currently an immigration attorney serving clients from over 80 countries, with particular focus on Central American immigrants
- Served as telecommunications executive for nearly 25 years, including CEO of international Mexican telecommunications firm
- Former US Air Force attorney in US and Europe
- Deep passion for working with youth and the outdoors, with decades of experience in scouting, wilderness hiking and camping
- Lives in Fairfax, Virginia with his wife Cathy.
